THE CHILDREN'S RIGHT'S MOBILE UNIT

The Children's Right's Mobile Unit is an innovative and interactive program designed to introduce children to the concept of children’s rights and responsibilities; stressing violence prevention, equality and respect for themselves and the responsibility to protect these rights for others.

The mobile unit, in operation since April 1998, has reached tens of thousands of children in schools, community centers, summer camps and youth groups around the country. In the visits, aspects of children's rights are dealt with such as finding non-violent solutions to problems and the right to every child to a say over his/her own body.

It is almost a regular occurrence that after the visit, a child (or children) will report to the Mobile Unit team about a friend they feel is being abused or their own personal experience.

Sara, 11, spoke privately to our Mobile Unit team after a presentation at her school. She shared that every time her parents get angry with her they would lock her in a cabinet. "It's dark and scary." Sara was afraid to speak about the situation before because her parents get upset when someone outside the family intervenes. The talk at school gave her the confidence to speak up. Today Sara and her family are receiving assistance.

After seeing the Mobile Unit in action, Tel-Aviv District Judge, the Honorable Saviona Rotlevi, wrote:  "It was an emotional experience for me to see these blessed activities up close, to see what you are doing to convey to young children the first concepts regarding their rights, their status, to the feeling of basic justice and equality between people and to respect them as children and as people…. I have no doubt that this method is the most effective method possible to teach children the basic values of democracy."
